Franchise Times: Franchisors Should Step Up to the Food Hall Craze

With 150 new food halls to be opened in the U.S. by 2020, franchisors should take advantage of the new trend.

While food courts aren’t a glamorous or memorable experience for most, food halls are becoming the social media –worthy meal that consumers desire. According to a recent Franchise Times article, commercial developers are embracing these higher-end food courts.

In the Chicago market, the Chicago French Market, the Atrium and Revival Food Hall are three destinations for this type of meal. While each one is very different from the other, all have different types of opportunities for franchising.

With 150 new food halls planned to open before 2020 in the U.S., Garrick Brown, vice president of retail research at Cushman & Wakefield, believes that this market should be on the radar of franchisors due to lower build-out costs and rents, as well as the fact that they are a great opportunity to test out new concepts in a small space.
