Trent Tuttle, a 24-year-old who finished college in 2016 with a degree in business and economics, is not like most recent graduates. Instead of pursuing an entry-level position, Tuttle became a franchisee for TWO MEN AND A TRUCK®, the largest franchised moving company in North America. He officially became a franchisee of the Norfolk, Virginia location on January 1st.

“I have always loved the entrepreneurial aspect of business, so I looked into franchising opportunities after graduation,” Tuttle said. “I decided to check out TWO MEN AND A TRUCK because it was founded in my hometown of Lansing, Michigan, and it has a great reputation and is growing quickly.”

In June 2017, Tuttle moved to Richmond, Virginia, for an internship with TWO MEN AND A TRUCK where he worked with franchisees Nathan Bocock and Bryan and Rebecca Feldman. Bocock and the Feldmans manage several TWO MEN AND A TRUCK franchises and recognized Tuttle’s potential.

“Trent works hard, and he doesn’t have an ego,” Bocock said. “He is willing to learn and isn’t scared to take on new challenges. To me, these are the basic traits that you need to succeed in running a business.”

With the goal of becoming a TWO MEN AND A TRUCK franchisee, Tuttle strived to develop an understanding of every aspect of the business. For months, he worked as a mover,  driver, customer service representative and an administrative assistant.

“As a franchisee, it’s important to be familiar with every touch point, to know how each important task is done, and why we do things the way we do them,” Tuttle said. “It’s good to wear many different hats and to put yourself in the shoes of everyone working with you because when you have that experience, you can relate better to your team and problem solve even better.”

While trying each position, Tuttle realized that everyone working for TWO MEN AND A TRUCK plays a vital role in ensuring the company provides superior services to its customers.

“It was interesting for me to see how the positions have their own unique dynamics and how they all tie in to ensuring that TWO MEN AND A TRUCK is successful,” Tuttle said.

Bocock and Feldman agree it is beneficial for TWO MEN AND A TRUCK franchisees to be familiar with the components of the organization.

“Our philosophy is that we will never ask an employee to do something we wouldn’t do, and it is very helpful when you have worked your way up through the ranks,” Feldman said. “You are speaking from experience, and the employees have added respect for that.”

After Tuttle gained his experience, Bocock and Feldman decided to partner with him to own a location in Norfolk. They believe Norfolk is an ideal market for TWO MEN AND A TRUCK because it is home to thousands of active military personnel who move frequently. In addition to embracing its presence in Norfolk, the company is also looking forward to expanding in other areas of Northern Virginia, including Bristol, Winchester, Fredericksburg, Woodbridge and Centreville.

To prepare for his opening, Tuttle received one-on-one training and attended the company’s Gearing Up class at its corporate office to learn  how to build a successful business. As one of the company’s youngest franchisees, Tuttle believes it is important for him to have resources and support to ensure he is successful.

“I know that not many people my age get this opportunity,” Tuttle said. “That is why it’s encouraging to know I am not in this alone. Being a franchisee is a lot of responsibility, so it’s comforting  to have that guidance, a solid team I can go to with any questions, and a great system in place.”

Bocock and Feldman are confident Tuttle will be a successful franchisee and an asset to TWO MEN AND A TRUCK.

“Trent is very hardworking and dedicated to making the franchise succeed,” Feldman said. “Thus far, he has excelled in each area in which he has worked.  Trent is a good fit with our group, and we will work with him on any area in which he needs assistance. He is motivated, and we have no doubt he will succeed in being a great franchisee.”
